Releasing Anchorpoint for Lore
Anchorpoint for Lore – a fast, visual desktop client for Epic's new version control system
Collaborating on large projects, such as Unreal-related projects, is a painful process. Either you lock yourself into proprietary vendors or use open-source solutions where you pay with engineering time spent fixing and troubleshooting issues.
Earlier this year, Epic announced Lore version control, an open-source solution made for the Media & Entertainment industry. It is close to Git but handles all the pain points around large binary files, which compose the majority of these projects.
Today, we are releasing a fast and visual desktop application for Lore. It took us many months to get there, even with the help of AI. We wanted to make sure to ship quality, so like in the "before AI" era, each feature went through many iterations and has been carefully tested. Download it and try it out.
Anchorpoint for Lore lets you review the work of your team members and agents in a visual way. It's light, generates thumbnails, and loads your content pretty fast. We added support for comparing different versions (so-called diffing) of code, Unreal assets, 3D models, as well as audio and video formats. It's designed for trunk-based development workflows and targeted especially at non-developers.
Large Unreal projects suddenly feel light
Heavy Unreal Engine projects, with gigabytes of data and millions of files, suddenly feel lighter. Lore's chunking mechanism cuts upload and download times to a fraction of what was needed before. Even basic things like switching a branch become much more delightful. Anchorpoint also loads assets quickly, so you can go through a revision quickly and get an overview of what has changed.
So what is next
As Lore progresses, so will Anchorpoint. Next to adding more Lore functionality like layered repositories or repository links, we will also provide a managed hosting service. More on that soon. The Anchorpoint desktop application will always be free to use with your existing Lore servers.
